lounge chair views

Continuing the weekend theme of gross inactivity, I can barely lift my head off the chaise. Nor do I particularly want to. I’ve been lounging about the DR for three days now, but to tell the truth, I could be anywhere.  Anywhere warm, that is. Punta Cana is one of those fake towns created to house hotel and residential developments and lots of tourists. If there’s any authentic Dominican element to be found, it’s in the friendly staff. Their inviting voices remind me that this island bears revisiting.  And traveling further afield.

castaway treehouse

Staying on the upper level at Zoetry Agua Punta Cana is a little bit like being secluded away in your own luxury treehouse.  This handmade  elevated walkway runs along the property’s perimeter, connecting all 51 suites to both the lobby and the beach.  All that’s missing is the swinging vine.

low-hanging fruit

When is a fruit not a fruit?  When they’re low-hanging higuiero, like these found just outside the Zoetry spa. Initially I had hoped that maybe they were giant passionfruit. April Fool’s: higuiero are actually inedible.  Cut in half, scooped out and dried, however, they make functional and decorative little bowls.

nothing but blue skies

I’m in the Dominican Republic for a weekend of relaxation at Zoetry Agua Punta Cana and there’s nothing but blue skies. Need I say more?
