Native American Legacies

amd_indiandancerIn this city of concrete, glass and steel it’s all too easy to forget the tangible reminders of a not too distant past when this little island was but a gleam in the eyes of Dutch traders and a fertile backyard for the Manahattan band of Lenape Indians.

In fact, the history of the First Nations or Native Americans of the tri-state area has been pretty much relegated to history’s backburner. Until now. Empowered by casino cash and a new found pride, the enduring legacy of this country’s original inhabitants is coming back to life at museums and festivals in and around New York State.
